Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are by far the leading cause of death globally. Implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) has a critical role in controlling and preventing NCDs. Tobacco use is a key risk factor for NCDs, and the WHO FCTC, especially if implemented fully and comprehensively, can help reduce premature mortality from NCDs.
This webinar will launch a report prepared by the Convention Secretariat to assist Parties to the WHO FCTC and other stakeholders working on tobacco control and on the control and prevention of NCDs to create and capitalize on synergies between the implementation of the WHO FCTC and national NCD control efforts, in line with decisions of the Conference of the Parties and the Global Strategy to Accelerate Tobacco Control.
The webinar will include speakers from the Ministry of Health, India; World Health Organization, NCD Alliance and the Secretariat of the WHO FCTC.
Interpretation available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

World Bank Knowledge Note Series
As communicated earlier, the World Bank launched today two knowledge notes with many references to tobacco taxation policies. One of the notes is on health taxes (including background information; country examples; role in revenue generation; linkages between health taxes, tax policy and tax administration). The other note discusses health taxes and inflation (including how to apply them in a way that they are not eroded by inflation, especially recent, post-COVID inflations).
We hope you will find them useful.
