Evita Ricafort will be presenting in the symposium ‘The WHO FCTC Impact Assessment: Methodology, Findings, and Lessons Learned,’ which will discuss various aspects of the ten-year impact assessment of the WHO FCTC. Evita will present a paper on the WHO FCTC’s impact on the resolution of legal challenges against tobacco control measures. |

Suzanne Zhou will be presenting in the symposium ‘International Trade and Tobacco Control: Developing a Long Term Approach in the Light of Recent Rulings.’ Suzanne will present a paper on recent trade and investment law rulings and their implications for WHO FCTC implementation. |

Evita Ricafort will be presenting in the symposium ‘Legal Challenges: A Global Perspective.’ Evita will present on the role of the WHO FCTC in defending tobacco control measures against legal challenges. |
In addition, there will be a shared Knowledge Hub booth running in the Grand Ballroom of the conference centre for all three days of the conference. We’ll be sharing with our colleagues from the Knowledge Hub on Taxation (South Africa), so if you’re interested in learning more about our work and talking to representatives of the Knowledge Hubs please feel free to stop by – we will be near the East exits.

The Norwegian and Dutch Cancer Societies and the University of Groningen will host a half day workshop on ‘New Legal Approaches in Tobacco Control,’ which will include an update on Norwegian plain packaging litigation, public interest litigation in the Netherlands, and human rights approaches to tobacco control. |

The session ‘FCTC at the Crossroads: Directions and Challenges to Strengthening and Accelerating FCTC Implementation and Sustaining its Impact’ will include a presentation by Benn McGrady of WHO on strengthening FCTC implementation in the context of legal challenges. |

The session ‘Addressing the Commercial Determinants of Health: Perspectives and Prospects’, chaired by Francis Thompson of the Framework Convention Alliance, will discuss the lessons of tobacco control for the broader NCD movement, including in relation to intersectoral cooperation, food and alcohol policy, and the intersection between trade and health law. |

The session ‘The WHO FCTC as a Shield and Sword in Litigation,’ chaired by Patricia Lambert of the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, will discuss the role of the WHO FCTC in legal challenges in South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda and the work of the WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO) in this area. |
